On 1 January 2027 the Altersvorsorgedepot (Germany’s state-subsidized retirement investment account) launches and replaces the Riester pension. Families can get up to €1,680 in subsidy a year, and unlike with Riester you are free to invest in ETFs. Many providers will enter the market at the same time at launch – with big differences in costs and choice.
