Altersvorsorgedepot for low earners

On a small budget, the government subsidy has the strongest effect. Out of a few euros of own contribution, the allowances deliver more than higher earners get from the same contribution.

Subsidy rate

For small incomes the subsidy is worth the most

: The smaller your own contribution, the more a fixed allowance weighs.
On your first €360 of own contribution each year, the state adds 50% on top. With small contributions that is an immediate subsidy rate that no investment on the market can guarantee you. It makes retirement provision possible even on a tight budget: even small, regular amounts grow into a decent reserve over the years.
  • 50% allowance on the first €360 ·
  • eligible for the subsidy from €10 a month
  • €300 per child

The smaller your contribution, the higher the relative subsidy. Add child allowances and the ratio shifts further in your favor.

Practical tip

Small amounts, big effect

On a tight budget in particular, one simple trick helps: set up your contribution as a standing order, right after your salary arrives. That way the money is gone before it can be spent, and the subsidy runs automatically alongside. If things get tight, lower the amount or pause for a while. And as soon as there is more left over, simply turn it back up.

A few euros become more than you think

Small contributions mainly need time, then they grow big.
Give it a try.
Move the sliders to your starting age and your monthly amount, and you will see how a few euros a month turn into a decent cushion over the years. The subsidy and compound interest work the whole time, without you paying in more.

Especially then. The fixed basic allowance has the strongest relative effect on small contributions. On the first €360 a year you get 50% on top, which no conventional savings product gets you.

€120 a year, that is €10 a month, is enough to be eligible for the subsidy. More is possible but not required.

What matters is that you meet the subsidy requirements and make your own contributions. The size of the allowance depends on your own contribution, not on how high your income is.

Yes. For each child you receive child benefit for, up to €300 a year is added on top of the basic allowance. More on this under child allowance.

You can lower or pause your contributions at any time. As long as the minimum contribution is reached by the end of the year, you stay eligible for the subsidy.
